Day Trips to Harden, Boorowa, and Young
Journey Overview
Set out on a 250km (approximately) round trip from Temora to explore the charming towns of Harden, Boorowa, and Young. This route offers a blend of wineries, orchards, historical sites, and local culinary delights.
Harden-Murrumburrah
Begin your trip by heading east from Temora along Burley Griffin Way to the twin towns of Harden-Murrumburrah. Start your day with a visit to Harden's House of Honey, producing and packing one of the most extensive ranges of pure raw straight-line Honeys in Australia. Besides their extensive range of honey, they also produce their own honeycomb, beeswax candles, beeswax and range of handmade soaps.
Botanica Romantica, is a fun vintage, garden and gift boutique for a spot of shopping. Then head to Jacksons Bakery that features a beautifully landscaped outdoor rustic courtyard (Open Monday-Friday). Enjoy the serene ambiance while savouring the famous Jackson's pies and homemade treats or grab some treats for a picnic lunch at your next destination! Barnes Store Emporium and Cafe is another great little spot to recharge before continuing onto your next destination!
Boorowa
Next, travel to Boorowa, a delightful spot for lunch and exploration. Stop by the Pantry on Pudman for excellent coffee and culinary delights or visit the Boorowa Courthouse Café and Information Centre. For railway enthusiasts, the Boorowa Underbridge is must-see. The town also boasts the Historical Museum, housed in Boorowa’s last pise building. Before leaving, check out Glenara Gallery, a beautifully restored house and garden featuring quality gifts, old coins, jewellery, paintings, and handmade wooden furniture and products from the workshop.
Young
Head back west to Young, famously known as Australia's cherry capital. Young is home to numerous orchards where you can find a variety of fruits, including plums and apricots. Visit Sweet Tooth Farm and Orchards, a small family-run farm offering seasonal pick-your-own fruit and farm visits by appointment. The picking season typically runs from mid-November to late December but please note that "Pick Your Own Cherries" is a ticketed event only.
For a taste of local jams, stop by Poppa's Jam and Fudge Factory. Alternatively, visit Ballinaclash Orchard and Cellar Door, where the Farm Gate Shop & Cellar Door is open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm during cherry season, and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11am to 4pm in autumn, winter, and early spring. Be sure to check their website for any seasonal variations in opening hours.
